FDM System Wide Technical Specifications

FDM provides minimum system wide hardware specifications. Note that clients are responsible for the purchase, installation and ongoing maintenance of all hardware components. Hardware suppliers retain the support and warranty responsibility for any hardware purchased.

Peripherals and General

To provide application support remotely, FDM personnel will require remote access to Clients' FDM servers. FDM uses GoToAssist as our standard Remote Support Tool. Other remote access software can be considered on a case-by-case basis and needs to be approved by FDM.

FDM supports standard Microsoft Windows printer setup for the selection of printer, printer properties and report destination. Locally attached printers and network printers can be accessed from FDM.

A flatbed scanner is required at each location where images and documents are scanned. The images should be stored in a common images folder on the network. From there, the images can be linked in FDM or stored directly in the FDM RMS database.

Note: FDM software operates over any TCP/IP supported networks where there is coverage. This includes CDMA, GPRS, CDPD, 1X, HSDPA 3G, LTE connections and 802.11 (Wi-Fi). Radio Frequency (RF) networks are supported using IP emulation middleware.

Data transfer speeds are dependent on the wireless network and amount of data being requested.

Mobile FDM Mobile devices operate over public cell phone networks, including 3G, 4G, and LTE, and 802.11 (Wi-Fi) connections. 

FDM Server Specifications

FDM recommends that clients have one primary server and one redundant secondary server to host the FDM RMS/FDM CAD database. In addition, a communications server will be used to host the Ani/Ali, FDM E-Connect services and serve to manage user connections using the client’s TCP/IP network.

All servers must be dedicated to the FDM application. 

Witness Server

Where FDM’s high availability mirroring is configured, you will require a SQL witness server. This service can be run on any computer on the same network, such as an FDM CAD workstation.

Communications Server

For any CAD system supporting more than twenty-five (25) concurrent users, FDM recommends that an additional server be deployed to run FDM E-Connect and other FDM services. This communications server will manage communications from any device to the database.  

FDM requires that each deployed workstation has full TCP/IP access to the server running FDM E-Connect. 

For the server operating system for the communications server, FDM supports up to Microsoft Windows Server 2012. The communications server is used to run the various FDM services. It has low disk activity and storage requirements, but high CPU and RAM requirements. The communications server is designed to operate on a single server.

Third Party Software

Database

FDM uses Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012 or 2014 as the Relational Database Management System (RDBMS).

SQL Server licensing must allow for assignment of adequate processor resources to the SQL Server.  That is, the client must have licensing for at least one processor with 4 cores.

Mapping - ESRI ArcGIS 10.x

FDM uses ESRI ArcGIS Engine to display maps in RMS and CAD. No hardware beyond that specified in the mapping sections of this document (see Workstations: Video Card, and Mapping) is required to run the ESRI software.
